How to read your Human Design chart

A Human Design chart (the bodygraph) is calculated from two moments: your birth (the Personality, drawn in gold) and the moment about 88 days earlier when the Sun stood 88 degrees behind its birth position (the Design, drawn in rose). Each of the 13 planetary positions at both moments lands in one of 64 gates and one of its six lines.

1. Type and strategy

Your type comes from which centers are defined and how they connect. It suggests a strategy for engaging with life.

2. Inner authority

Authority describes the most reliable way for you to make decisions.

3. Profile

Your profile combines the line of your Personality Sun with the line of your Design Sun.

1/3 Profile: Investigator / MartyrThe 1/3 profile combines the Investigator, who researches until things feel solid, with the experimenter, who learns by trial and error.1/4 Profile: Investigator / OpportunistThe 1/4 profile pairs the Investigator, who builds a firm foundation, with the Opportunist, who shares what they know through a close network.2/4 Profile: Hermit / OpportunistThe 2/4 profile pairs the Hermit, who has natural gifts and needs time alone, with the Opportunist, who thrives in a close circle of friends.2/5 Profile: Hermit / HereticThe 2/5 profile blends the Hermit, a private person with natural gifts, and the Heretic, whom others expect to solve practical problems.3/5 Profile: Martyr / HereticThe 3/5 profile pairs the experimenter, who learns by trial and error, with the Heretic, who turns experience into practical solutions others rely on.3/6 Profile: Martyr / Role ModelThe 3/6 profile pairs the experimenter with the Role Model, a life that moves from trial and error toward perspective and wisdom.4/6 Profile: Opportunist / Role ModelThe 4/6 profile pairs the Opportunist, whose life runs through relationships, with the Role Model, who matures into an observer with perspective.4/1 Profile: Opportunist / InvestigatorThe 4/1 profile is the only juxtaposition profile, pairing the relationship-focused Opportunist with the Investigator's need for a firm foundation.5/1 Profile: Heretic / InvestigatorThe 5/1 profile blends the Heretic, whom others look to for practical solutions, with the Investigator, who backs answers with solid research.5/2 Profile: Heretic / HermitThe 5/2 profile pairs the Heretic, whom others turn to for practical help, with the Hermit, who has natural talent and needs time alone.6/2 Profile: Role Model / HermitThe 6/2 profile pairs the Role Model, who gains perspective over time, with the Hermit, who has natural gifts and needs time alone.6/3 Profile: Role Model / MartyrThe 6/3 profile pairs the Role Model, who matures into perspective, with the experimenter, who learns by trial and error.

4. Definition

Definition describes how your defined centers connect to each other.

No definition
No center is defined. This is the Reflector design: you sample and mirror the people and places around you, and your consistency comes from the roughly 28-day lunar cycle rather than from fixed definition.
Single definition
All of your defined centers join into one continuous whole. You tend to process on your own and at your own pace, and you do not need anyone to bridge a gap in your chart in order to feel complete.
Split definition
Your defined centers form two separate areas. People who carry the gates that bridge the gap can feel deeply familiar or completing. Taking a little time over big decisions lets both areas join in.
Triple split
Your defined centers form three separate areas. Variety helps: moving between different people and places lets your parts connect. Slow, unhurried decisions tend to serve you best.
Quadruple split
Your defined centers form four separate areas, which is rare. Processing naturally takes time, so give yourself plenty of it and enjoy a wide mix of company.

5. Centers

Nine centers. Defined centers are consistent energy; open centers take in and amplify what is around you.

6. Channels and gates

A channel is defined when both of its gates are activated. Explore all 36 channels and all 64 gates.

7. Incarnation cross

The four Sun and Earth gates form your incarnation cross, read as the overall theme of a life.
