The G Center in Human Design

The G center holds identity, direction and love. It contains gates 1, 13, 25, 46, 2, 15, 10 and 7.

The G center (also called the Self center) sits at the heart of the chart. It is associated with your sense of identity, the direction your life takes and your experience of love. It holds eight gates: 1, 13, 25, 46, 2, 15, 10 and 7.

What it governs

The G center is about who you are and where you are headed. Gate 1 expresses creative self-expression, Gate 13 listens and remembers, Gate 25 is about innocence and spirit, Gate 46 is about being in the right place at the right time, Gate 2 is about receptivity and direction, Gate 15 is about the rhythm of extremes, Gate 10 is about how you behave as yourself, and Gate 7 is about guiding others.

When defined

A defined G center means you have a consistent sense of identity and direction. You tend to feel like yourself across different places and people. Many people with a defined G center feel their life has a path, even if they cannot yet describe it.

The practice is to remember that your sense of direction belongs to you. Others may find you steady, and you may sometimes resist environments that do not fit. Trust your authority when it comes to specific choices.

When open/undefined

An open G center means your identity is fluid, shaped by the people and places you spend time with. You may feel different in different environments, and you may feel you are still figuring out who you are.

The gift is adaptability and a sensitivity to what a place or person can bring out of you. The practice is to choose your surroundings carefully, because the environment is part of your guidance. People with an open G center often feel more themselves when they are in the right location, with the right people, doing what they love. Waiting for a sense of direction to appear is more useful than demanding an answer.

Questions to reflect on

  • Where do I feel most like myself?
  • Who brings out the best in me?
  • Am I trying to define myself, or letting my surroundings help me see?
