When defined

A defined Spleen means you have a consistent instinctive awareness. You may find that your intuition is quick and quiet. It tends to speak once, in the moment, and then fall silent. Many people with a defined Spleen sense when something is not right or when a situation is good for them.

The practice is to listen. The Spleen does not repeat itself, and it can be drowned out by mental noise. Trusting your first quiet impression, and noticing when fear-based thinking is louder than instinct, helps you sort the two.

When open/undefined

An open Spleen means you do not have a fixed instinct. You can take in the sense of security or fear from others and may find it difficult to let go of what is familiar, even when it no longer serves you. Many people with an open Spleen hold on to jobs, places or relationships for longer than is comfortable.

The gift is awareness of what is happening around you. The practice is to ask, "Is this fear mine?" and to look for what truly feels safe. Moving through change with trusted friends can be supportive. You may also learn to recognize when it is time to let go.

Questions to reflect on

  • What is my first quiet impression of this situation?
  • Am I holding on to something because it is safe or because it is right?
  • How do I recognize fear versus intuition?

FAQ

Is the Spleen the same as the Sacral? No. The Sacral is a gut response to questions, while the Spleen is a spontaneous instinct.

What is splenic authority? It is the authority for people with a defined Spleen and no defined Solar Plexus or Sacral.

Does the Spleen predict the future? It is more about instinct in the moment than prediction.
