Authority
Ego Authority in Human Design (Heart Authority)
Ego authority belongs to people whose Heart center is defined and who have no defined Solar Plexus, Sacral or Spleen. Decisions come from honest willpower and what you truly want.
Ego authority, also called heart authority, applies when your Heart (Ego) center is defined and your Solar Plexus, Sacral and Spleen are not. It is one of the rarer authorities and has two versions: ego-manifested, where the Heart connects to the Throat (typical for Manifestors), and ego-projected, where the Heart connects to the G center (typical for Projectors).
What it means
The Heart center is associated with willpower, self-worth and what you are willing to commit to. Ego authority asks you to check in with desire and capacity: "Do I actually want this?" and "Do I have the energy and heart to keep this promise?" It is less about a sudden gut reaction and more about an honest declaration of what you will and will not do.
The word "ego" here is not an insult. It points to the healthy ability to stand up for your own interests.
How to use it
- Ask what you really want. Not what you think you should want, but what you would choose.
- Check your resources. Heart energy runs in bursts, so be realistic about what you can sustain.
- Say it out loud. Many people with ego authority find clarity when they speak their wants to a trusted listener.
- Make promises carefully. Willpower works best when you only commit to what you will really honor.
Ego-manifested vs. ego-projected
- Ego-manifested: Your Heart-to-Throat link means you can announce a decision directly. Telling others what you will do, and informing them ahead of time, is part of the process.
- Ego-projected: Your Heart connects to the G center rather than the Throat. You often need an invitation and a sounding board to hear your own wants clearly.
Practical tips
- Rest generously. Willpower is not endless, and many people with this authority get tired of pushing.
- Avoid "should" decisions; they tend to produce resentment.
- Notice when you say yes to be liked and recheck whether you meant it.
In relationships
Partners help by asking, "What do you want?" and then actually taking the answer seriously. Your own part is to be clear about what you want and to be honest when your energy is low.
Common misconceptions
- "Ego authority means being selfish." It means being honest. Healthy desire serves relationships.
- "You can overpromise." Overpromising is the main trap; sustained commitment matters here.
- "It's the same as sacral authority." It isn't. Ego authority is about will and capacity, not a gut yes.
FAQ
Who can have ego authority? Manifestors (ego-manifested) and Projectors (ego-projected).
What if I don't know what I want? Start with small, concrete questions and notice your pull or lack of pull over several days.
Why is this authority described as rare? It requires a defined Heart without a defined Sacral, Solar Plexus or Spleen, which happens in a limited share of charts.
