Channel 16-48 — The Channel of the Wavelength

Channel 16-48 links the Throat to the Spleen. It is the pursuit of mastery through practice, with a drive to go deeper.

At a glance

• Gates: 16 and 48
• Centers connected: Throat and Spleen
• Circuit: Collective (Logic)
• Name: The Channel of the Wavelength

What it is

Channel 16-48 connects Gate 16 (skill and enthusiasm) in the Throat with Gate 48 (depth) in the Spleen. It is called the channel of the Wavelength: an aptitude for developing skill through repetition and a search for the depth that makes it meaningful.

How it tends to show up

People with this channel are often drawn to mastery. You may enjoy practicing, refining and learning until something becomes second nature. The enthusiasm of Gate 16 provides the spark, and the depth of Gate 48 asks, "Is this good enough?" This question can push you to improve, and it can also create doubt.

The channel is also about tuning in: you may be able to sense where a person or a group is coming from, and respond in a way that matches. This can make you a good teacher or collaborator.

Growth edges and tips

• Practice with joy. Enthusiasm keeps the learning alive.
• Do not wait for perfection. Sharing a skill before it feels complete helps you grow.
• Name your doubts. A fear of not being deep enough is common in this channel and can be eased by experience.
• Find your wavelength. Seek teachers and peers who match your pace.

Reflection

What skill are you willing to practice for years, and what does enough look like?

If you only have one of the two gates

If only Gate 16 or only Gate 48 is active in a chart, the channel is not formed and it does not link the Throat and Spleen centers. A lone gate like this is often called a hanging gate. Its theme is present but shows up in a more flexible, in-and-out way, and you may feel the missing half most when you are around someone who carries it.
